With AZ Dryer Pros, replacing the transition hose behind a dryer in Arizona starts at $149. That's the short hose that connects the dryer to the vent in the wall. The technician checks it, shows you photos and gives you the exact price before any work starts. If you say no to anything else, you only pay for what you approved.
What the transition hose is
It's the short, flexible piece between the back of the dryer and the vent opening in the wall or floor. It has to bend because the dryer moves, and that's why it fails: it gets crushed, kinked or pulled loose every time the dryer is pushed back. Under the residential code it can be no longer than 8 feet, must be listed for dryers (UL 2158A), and can't be hidden inside a wall, floor or ceiling.
Foil, plastic, semi-rigid or rigid?
- White plastic or vinyl: not allowed for dryers. Replace it.
- Thin foil accordion: crushes flat easily and its ridges hold lint.
- Semi-rigid metal: holds its shape, bends without kinking. What we install.
- Rigid metal: best for the run inside the wall, but too stiff for the connection behind the dryer in most laundry rooms.
How often should the hose be replaced?
There's no fixed calendar. Replace it when it's crushed, torn, kinked, held together with duct tape, or made of plastic or vinyl. We check it at every visit. A good semi-rigid hose that isn't crushed can stay; one that has been flattened behind the dryer for years should go.
Signs the hose is the problem
- The dryer sits so close to the wall the hose must be bent flat
- Lint around the back of the dryer or on the floor
- A clean outside vent but weak airflow
- The hose came off the dryer or the wall collar
- Visible tears or tape patches
Tight laundry closets
In many Arizona condos and smaller homes, the dryer barely fits. If the hose gets crushed no matter what, a recessed in-wall vent box gives it room. That's part of an installation or reroute, priced separately before any work.
How a visit works
- Pull the dryer. We move it out and look at the hose and both connections.
- Price first. Photos of the old hose and the exact price.
- Replace. Listed semi-rigid metal hose, clamped at both ends, cut to length.
- Test and set back. We run the dryer, check airflow, and push it back without crushing the hose.
